The village of Iron Acton lies approximately two miles north west of Yate and Chipping Sodbury on the outskirts of Bristol. With a population of over 1300 and in close vicinity to the M4, M5 and A38 the village has become a sought after location for those who want the balance of a picturesque rural village within commuting distance to Bristol, London, Cardiff and Gloucester.
Iron Acton, like many rural villages in the UK, has an old BT exchange which is in no hurry to be upgraded to offer ADSL services to the community, and even it was, there will be many residents outside the 5Km range needed to deliver broadband.
On Christmas Eve 2003, we commissioned a wireless link using WaveSpan equipment from our office on a nearby trading estate and using a repeater node on a tall factory building, delivered the first broadband connection to Iron Acton residents - way ahead of BT!
